BALM OF GILEAD Flower

BALM OF GILEAD

This is the popular name of Cedronella triphylla, a sage-like plant from the Canary Isles: it bears purple flowers but is valued chiefly for the sake of its fragrant leaves. It is hardy only in mild districts. Propagation is by cuttings under glass in spring. When nosegays were fashionable, they nvariably contained a few fragrant sprigs of Balm of Gilead.
