The flowers and also the aromatic leaves of borage arc used for flavoring such beverages as claret cup or negus; the leaves and young tops may be employed in salads. The flowers are blue, the leaves oblong and clothed with white hairs, the stems about 2 ft. high, hollow and rough. The plant is best grown as an annual, seed being sown out of doors in spring. A foot apart is a suitable distance for the plants, which like a rather dry and stony soil.
