FLOWER GARDEN

This is the popular name of a variety of the genus Mathiola, a half-hardy, biennial flowering plant. The seed is sown in May. In cold districts it is wise to winter the plants in a frame and put them out in spring. The plants average about 18 in. in height, and the flowers are sweetly perfumed.
